The National Women's Justice Coalition Inc. is celebrating Law Week 2000 by raising awareness of the World March of Women in Australia and providing  4 online events hosted by the Australian Virtual Centre for Women and the Law.

The NWJC urges support for the World March of Women 2000.

The World March is coordinated in Australia by groups led by the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, Australia.

The World March is a global grass roots expression of concern about the living conditions of women and violence against women.


You can participate in World March activities and you can start activities yourself.

Finally, please consider dontaing to the World March in Australia. Donations made to WILPF for this purpose through the National Foundation of Australian Women's prefered donor fund are tax deductible

The AVCWL was launched during Women's Online Week in October '99 and is now providing almost 100 email lists. There are several thousand list participants, 20 trained community list facilitators and probably over 300 Australian women's organisations represented on lists through the facility. You can read through the menu of lists, check the featured lists and participate!

Women in Legal Practice Survey

Launched 15 May 2000

This is an online survey for practicing women lawyers in Australia. The survey continues until 31 July 2000 and the results will then be posted on the National Women's Justice Coalition, Australian Virtual Centre for Women and the Law and other participating web sites.

Online mentoring to women law students
15-19 May

Australian Women Lawyers, which is the national body of practicing women lawyers in Australia, is offering online mentoring to women law students about careers in legal practice during Law Week. If you are a woman law student in Australia you can jump on the womlawstu email list and ask questions and build your networks

Launched 15 May and continuing during law week

Online community discussion
Launched 15 May for the lead up to the conference


Through Our Eyes: National Conference on the Legal Needs of Women in Regional Rural and Remote Australia. Albury 14 & 15 June with pre conference networks day on 13 June 2000.

The NWJC is partnering with the Albury Wodonga Community Legal Service to provide this conference. The supporters include the NSW and Victorian Law Foundations, South Australian Law Society, Northern Territory Public Purposes Trust, Family Law and Legal Aid Division of the Attorney-General's Department, Stegley Foundation, Law Council of Australia's Access to Justice Committee, the Regional, Rural and Remote Network of the National Association of Community Legal Centres, Australian Legal Assistance Forum and the Centre for Rural Social Research, Charles Sturt University and the Country Women's Association.

The online discussion is being launched on 15 May 2000 to coincide with Law Week. In the lead up to the conference this is a great place to share information about legal issues for women in your community and region and to talk about your projects and your ideas!
