Women's Constitutional Network!
The Australian Women's Constitutional Network (AWCN) was established by the Women's Constitutional Convention Steering Committee to carry on the work which started with the Women's Constitutional Convention held at Parliament House, Canberra in January 1998. The Network aims to promote women's vigorous, informed, influential and continuing participation in Australian Constitutional development.
The AWCN is led by representatives of the following organisations: National Women's Justice Coalition, Women Into Politics; YWCA of Australia, Women's Electoral Lobby (Australia), Women for an Australian Republic, and Australian Women Lawyers
The ACWN endorses the outcomes of the Women's Constitutional Convention, is non-party political and encourages the broadest possible participation by women across the political spectrum, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, women from a non-English speaking background, women's interest groups, women in non-metropolitan Australia ie ALL WOMEN.
Stage 1 of the Australian Women's Constitutional Network was the establishment and promotion of the national WE-THE-WOMEN email discussion list.
Stage 2 will involve the establishment of additional email lists. These will include a specialist list to promote the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women and State and Territory lists if required.
The AWCN will be providing additional conferences and other opportunities for women to be together to debate and establish positions about Australia's constitutional development.
