BEIJING PLUS FIVE QUESTIONNAIRE TO GOVERNMENTS
Take this link to the questionnaire
In October 1998, the Division for the Advancement of Women, United Nations, New York, contacted all governments who had signed off on the Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA), and requested them to complete a questionnaire which focuses specifically on the implementation of he twelve critical areas of the BPFA. This is part of the evaluation of the BPFA which will be a major theme in the special sitting of the United Nations General Assembly, "Women 2000, or Beijing plus Five, which will be held in June 2000.
The questionnaire was to be returned to no later than April 30 1999.It was suggested that governments would consult with Non Government Organisations (NGOs) as part of the process of completing the questionnaire. NGOs are also welcome to send in an independent response.
To date (August 1999), the Australian government has not completed the questionnaire, although they are now discussing possible methods of consultation with the NGO sector.
The report from the Sub Regional NGO meeting in preparation for Beijing plus Five will form the basis for an NGO response to the questionnaire from Australia. This does not exclude other groups from completing their own response. It would be useful to have these ready for the High level Government meeting in preparation for Beijing plus Five, which is to be held at the United Nations, Economic and Social Council, Bangkok, 26 - 29 October 1999.
It would also be useful to take to the meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) 44 in New York, March 2000.
Many thanks to NWJC for making the questionnaire available on the net.
