April '99 Questionnaire to governments - Australian government
report due. The Australian

March '99 The Commission for the Status of Women (CSW) has done extensive work on
various sections of the Platform for Action at CSW 40 and 41. In March 1999, CSW 43 worked on the Health and
the Government Machinery sections. CSW 44, March 2000 will be extended by one week to plan
the June meeting.
18-22 June '98, Beijing, All China Women's Federation (ACWF) hosted a 5 day seminar
to exchange information and experiences on actions by the government and NGOs to the
Beijing Declaration and Plaform for Action. Velvy Holden (Australian National Committee on
Refugee Women), Eileen Pittaway (Coalition of Activist Lesbians) and Libby Darlison
(Womensport Australia) attended as representatives of their respective organisations and
of CAPOW!. Take this link to the

In April and May '98 in the lead up to the Beijing seminar the Coalition of
Participating Organisations of Australian Women (CAPOW!) coordinated NGO input by
circulating a questionnaire and holding focus meetings on:
- the gains that they see coming from the Beijing conference,
- the actions which have been taken, and
- the actions which should be taken in the future.
