HUMAN RIGHTS AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY COMMISSION
| In March '98 the Prime Minister
announced that Ms Susan Halliday has been appointed as the new Sex Discrimination
Commissioner. In mid 1997 the government proposed to abolish the position of specialist Sex Discrimination Commissioner and this was opposed by the NWJC and many other groups. Read the NWJC's letter to the Prime Minister, 1 Setpember 1997 in relation to the specialist commissioners. Separately, HREOC has faced substantial cuts resulting in staff reduction and office closure and with obvious impacts on effectiveness. |
