This conference is organised by Legal Aid Queensland. The theme is "Making the Youth Justice System Work Better" and will focus on different issues affecting young people including education, family, mental health, disability and drugs. The conference also aims to identify improvements to the operation of the youth justice system and establish strategic alliances between professionals specifically youth lawyers, case workers, diversionary program operators, academics, police, members of the judiciary and community/youth workers. Speakers include: Moira Rayner (WA acting Equal Opportunities Commissioner), Reverend Tim Costello (prominent social welfare advocate), Judge Carolyn Henwood (specialist in restorative justice, New Zealand), Catherine Pirie (Queensland Indigenous Magistrate). 'Making the Youth Justice System Work Better'will be held in Brisbane. Registration is $450 ($380 for bookings before 1 January 2003). Discounts available for community organisations.
