Activating Human Rights & Diversity Conference

The forum will address topics such as children, cultural diversity and the globalisation of human rights. There will be a number of prominent speakers attending addressing contemporary human rights concerns.

The forum will held in the Byron Bay Community Centre from the 1-4 July 2003. There will be a number of prominent speakers attending the forum including Monica Williams MP and Professor from the University of Ulster Northern Ireland; prize-winning author Raimond Gaita and Professor from Kings College Ireland; and the Australian Human Rights Commissioner Dr Sev Ozdowski.

According to the conference convenor, Dr Baden Offord Senior Lecturer in Cultural Studies at the SCU's School of Arts "The aim of the conference is to bring together activists, scholars, Non Government Organisations (NGOs), and health care and community workers who represent a diversity of viewpoints".

At the conclusion of the conference the Youth Resolutions will be formally handed over to Larry Anthony, the Federal Minister for Youth and Community Affairs

A human rights film festival will also be launched during the conference.
