Women's History Month 2005Date: 01 March 2005 through 31 March 2005
Women's History Month Australia promotes a wide understanding and appreciation of women's contribution to our history and society. Why Women's History Month? Every year during March, when women around the world celebrate International Women's Day, Women's History Month (WHM) is dedicated to remembering and celebrating the extraordinary variety of women who have contributed so much to Australia in earlier centuries, and in recent years. While some women will always be remembered - for example Dame Nellie Melba, and Jessie Street, the stories of the lives and work of others, while vital for the future of humanity and women, have the potential to be lost. Whether they were scientists, activists, musicians, writers, or women who made contributions to society in other or less obvious ways, we must not forget them. WHM, a project of the National Foundation for Australian Women (NFAW), is about discovering and publicising the stories of such women. It is about remembering and celebrating women in your community, or in your family, who contributed in some way. It is about the history of all women, not just individuals. See the Women's History Month 2005 web site for the calendar of events and how to register your event. You can also join the free Women's History Month new list for updates.
