How does legal aid
work? - what help is available, who
qualifies, how do you apply.
(Note: there is a Legal Aid
Commission ('LAC') in each Australian state and territory. There are some differences in
who is eligible and in the type of help which is available. The above link takes you to
information which the ACT Legal Aid Office provides on its web site about services
and eligibility. The position is similar - but not necessarily identical - for other
LACs.)
The eight State
and Territory Legal Aid Commissions come together in a group called National
Legal Aid. The NLA web site includes a clickable map to Legal Aid
