Backgound
Pamelas-list is a private email list for representatives of Australian national
women's peak organisations and regional women's organisations not represented
nationally. The list is a primary vehicle for high level, day to day information exchange
and coordination by women's organisations in Australia.
The list is provided by the National Women's Justice Coalition in July
1998 with financial assistance from the Pamela
Denoon Trust. The list is named to honour the life and work of Pamela Denoon.
Pamela's vision for the advancement of women in Australia
included the hope that Australian women's organisations would, over time, work more
closely together and be more supportive of each others issues and priorities.
The National Women's Round Table
Pamelas-list was originally established to assist to share information in the lead up to
the 1998 National Women's Round Table Meeting at Parliament House, Canberra on the 19 - 20
August '98.
The National Women's Round Table is an annual meeting convened by the Minister Assisting
the Prime Minister for the Status of Women. There is information about the National
Women's Round Table on the OSW web site.
The 1999 National Women's Round Table was held on the 21-22 October 1999. There has been
no announcement yet about the arrangements for the 2000 Round Table.

Conference of Women's Organisations
The Australian Conference of Women's Organisations (AWOC)
is the name of the private meeting of representatives of Australian national women's NGO's
and regional and state wide women's NGO's not represented nationally. AWOC takes place
immediately before the annual National Women's Roundtable. In the years before 1999, the
AWOC was called the 'Pre-Round Table'.
Each year, the arrangements for AWOC are coordinated by
a working group formed for the purpose. The YWCA of
Australia is the primary contact for AWOC. The National Women's Media Centre provided
a web site for AWOC '99

Applying to joining the list
As indicated above pamelas-list is a private list for representatives
of Australian national women's organisations and representatives of regional and state
women's organisations not represented nationally.
Those seeking to join the list must fit one of these
criteria and must be authorised by the organisation they seek to represent to participate
in the list as a representative of the organisation. Organisations which are
eligible to participate in pamelas-list, choose how many representatives they wish to have
on the list. Each representative must have the necessary authority from the organisation.
Please do not apply to join the list unless you believe
that you fit the criteria. Unless it is clear that you do fit the criteria the list
housekeeper will contact you by email to ask for verification. This may include asking for
a copy of your organisations objectives, constitution and verification from your board /
committee that you have the organisations authority to represent the organisation on the
list.
Organisations participating in pamelas-list take turns to do the list housekeeping. You
can contact the list facilitator by emailing: owner-pamelas-list@lists.nwjc.org.au
To apply to join the list take this link to the
joining form.
Additional
facilities
Shared resources
There are two private facilities for the shared use of pamelas-list participants. The
first is a private web area were organisations can share a range of resources (eg. mailing
lists for national women's organisations, operational documentation, fax streams and the
like).
The second is an email list called the-filing-cabinet. This list is used
for posting large file attachments for pamelas-list participants. Attachments posted to
the-filing-cabinet go into a private list archive which all pamelas-list participants can
access. Notification of postings is provided to pamelas-list. The contact is: owner-the-filing-cabinet@lists.nwjc.org.au
Pamelas-list web ring
In September 2000 we established a 'home made' web ring
facility for organisations represented on pamelas-list. Organisations represented on the
list may choose to display the pamelas-list web ring logo on their web site. The logo may
not be used for any other purpose with out the express permission of the National Women's Justice Coalition Inc. If you qualify
