Objectives
The objectives of the conference are to:
- raise awareness of the particular legal needs and service challenges in relation to
women (of all ages, locations, origin, cultures, language) in regional, rural and remote
Australia;
- share information about existing services;
- strengthen community and service provider partnerships;
- explore service delivery models and practical solutions;
- draw out themes for local, state and federal government policy development;
- strengthen access to decision makers;
- showcase innovative service models;
- build new networks and partnerships between researchers, community workers, legal
service providers and government agencies;
- identify and establish strategies to address research gaps.
The conference will be of particular relevance to:
- Women from rural, regional and remote
Australia who have an interest in
learning more about existing services, and increasing their access to these services.
- Service providers
(including community workers, researchers, and legal service
providers) who have an interest in sharing their achievements, discussing the challenges
and working towards improving service delivery to women in rural, regional and remote
Australia.
Researchers and academics - from a range of institutions
and disciplines (e.g. law, rural development, sociology, family studies, Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander studies)
Government policy advisers and federal, state and local
politicians - concerned to promote service availability and to respond to community
needs.
Sector and representative bodies (rural, Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander, national NGO's, and legal professional bodies)
